Ferrari will introduce a new front wing at the Turkish Grand Prix, but chief designer Nikolas Tombazis warns that it is unlikely that they will be in the position that they "should be".
The Scuderia have made a disappointing start to the 2011 campaign and Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are yet to claim a podium position three races into the season. The team have also struggled with their pace in qualifying with Alonso claiming their best grid position of P5.
After a lengthy break between the Chinese Grand Prix and the upcoming Turkish GP, Tombazis feels they have improved.
"I think we will be closer, but I don't think in Turkey we will be in the position we should be in," Tombazis said in an interview with Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
He confirmed that the Ferrari 150ยบ Italia will sport several upgrades in Turkey, including a new front wing.
"In Istanbul we will have a new front wing, and subsequent changes in the brake system, but our car has a long road to recovery. We are facing problems, and there are still many things to do," the Greek said.
As for their woes so far this year, Tombazis insists that "it's not a wasted year" and says "cultural revolution" will help the team to return to the top.
Ferari have come under criticism in recent years for no longer being at the front when it comes to innovations and Tombazis concedes they haven't been as aggressive as they should be.
"We realised that in recent years we have been more conservative, less aggressive in the development and ideas we have brought forward," he said.
He added that they have "shifted gears to be one hundred percent focused on things that matter and we already have very interesting projects" ahead.
